International Primary Curriculum Celebrates 500 schools in 50 Countries

The International Primary Curriculum has recently announced its 50th country, Denmark, has joined the fast growing learning community learning. That means that, since its launch in 2001, over 500 primary schools all around the world have now adopted the internationally-minded, cross-curricular learning approach of the IPC. And it's a figure predicted to rapidly increase this year with 800 schools anticipated by the end of the 2008-2009 school year and talk of a Middle Years Program imminent.

"The IPC began in international schools," says Director, Theresa Forbes. "And although we are increasingly extending our work to national systems, a huge part of our work remains with the international schools throughout the world. We have recently welcomed international schools from Denmark, Spain, Brazil, Pakistan, Mauritius and Slovenia to the IPC community. These schools recognize the benefits of the IPC's skills-based, thematic, internationally-minded approach and its rigorous teaching framework."

Building the IPC global community has been, in large part, down to word of mouth; one teacher or head teacher talking to another. But regional conferences, association events and briefings play a significant role in spreading the word too. "One of our first ports of call for contacting the international schools is through ISC-Research," says Theresa. "ISC-Research is a unique organisation having compiled detailed information on almost 5,000 English-medium international schools around the world. Thanks to this data we're able to reach many schools in the regions including new and developing schools, and keep track of growth areas and the very latest industry news within a highly active market. This data also helps us to plan the location of our regional training conferences worldwide."
