The ISAs 2020 will be held on Monday 20th January 2020 at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms, London.

The International School Awards celebrate learning, teaching, community, pastoral care, leadership and strategic initiatives at international schools. They provide the opportunity for international schools to share best practice, creative endeavours, community participation, and innovation.

The International School Awards are hosted by ISC Research with the support of International School Leader Magazine.

Community initiative

This award will recognise an initiative that involves students working with external groups such as parents, a charity, another school or the local community. Evidence should include a clear statement of how the initiative goes beyond what the school would be doing as an effective international school. Your application should detail how the initiative:

  1. Has involved students in owning and operating the project
  2. Has had impact on the external community
  3. Has developed international understanding and awareness
  4. Is designed to be sustainable
  5. Includes strategies that enable the initiative to be shared with other international schools and/or can be used to help bring about best practice in their local educational communities

Pastoral initiative

This award will recognise an initiative that supports student wellbeing. Evidence should include a clear statement of how the initiative goes beyond what the school would be doing as an effective international school and how it supports intercultural understanding. Your application should detail how the initiative:

  1. Identifies and addresses the unique needs of the students and the school
  2. Has demonstrated a positive impact on student wellbeing and incorporated student views
  3. Has demonstrated a positive impact on teaching and learning
  4. Is designed to be sustainable
  5. Includes strategies that enable the initiative to be shared with other international schools and/or can be used to help bring about best practice in their local educational communities

Initiative to support school wellbeing and safeguarding

This award will recognise an initiative that supports school-wide wellbeing and/or safeguarding. Evidence should include a clear statement of how the initiative goes beyond what the school would be doing as an effective international school. Your application should detail how the initiative:

  1. Has resulted in a positive impact on the entire school community
  2. Involves all stakeholders in owning and operating the initiative, including student voice and/or student action as part of the initiative
  3. Has demonstrated the values of wellbeing and safeguarding within an international school community
  4. Is designed to be sustainable
  5. Includes strategies that enable the initiative to be shared with other international schools and/or can be used to help bring about best practice in their local educational communities

Initiative to support students as future-thinking innovators

This award will recognise an initiative that supports future thinkers and creative innovation. Evidence should include a clear statement of how the initiative goes beyond what the school would be doing as an effective international school. Your application should detail how the initiative:

  1. Has encouraged students in lateral thinking for a specific purpose
  2. Has made a positive impact on student learning
  3. Demonstrates student commitment and a sustainable process for effective learning
  4. Includes student voice and/or student action as part of the initiative
  5. Includes strategies that enable the initiative to be shared with other international schools and/or can be used to help bring about best practice in their local educational communities

Teaching and learning initiative

This award will recognise a subject-specific or whole-school initiative that has supported teaching and learning to the benefit of the students. Evidence should include a clear statement of how the initiative goes beyond what the school would be doing as an effective international school. Your application should detail how the initiative:

  1. Is original and creative
  2. Has had impact on students’ attitudes and/or attainment
  3. Includes the student voice and/or student action as part of the initiative
  4. Is designed to be sustainable
  5. Includes strategies that enable the initiative to be shared with other international schools and/or can be used to help bring about best practice in their local educational communities

Digital technology in learning initiative

This award will recognise a digital technology initiative that has had impact on student learning and which includes evidence of developing digital responsibility as part of the initiative. Evidence should include a clear statement of how the initiative goes beyond what the school would be doing as an effective international school. Your application should detail how the initiative:

  1. Has transformed, rather than replaced, a student learning opportunity (i.e. it does not merely replace a pencil-and-paper task with a similar technology-driven task)
  2. Includes evidence of helping students to develop digital responsibility
  3. Has made a positive impact on all student learning
  4. Is scalable, widely shareable and sustainably cost-efficient
  5. Includes strategies that enable the initiative to be shared with other international schools and/or can be used to help bring about best practice in their local educational communities

International impact

This award will recognise how international education and school ethos has had a positive impact within its locality and/or on a global scale. Evidence should include a clear statement of how the initiative goes beyond what the school would be doing as an effective international school. Your application should detail how the initiative:

  1. Has made a difference beyond the context of the school itself
  2. Has had impact on the international context of your school, either locally or on a global scale
  3. Is designed to be sustainable
  4. Includes the student voice and/or student action as part of the initiative
  5. Includes strategies that enable the initiative to be shared with other international schools and/or can be used to help bring about best practice in their local educational communities

Initiative to support inclusion

This award will recognise an initiative that has had genuine impact on all children within the school including those with special learning needs. Evidence should include a clear statement of how the initiative goes beyond what the school would be doing as an effective international school. Your application should detail how the initiative:

  1. Has demonstrated how children with special learning needs are an integral and equal part of the entire school community
  2. Has demonstrated a positive impact on students with special learning needs
  3. Has demonstrated a positive impact on teaching and learning
  4. Is designed to be sustainable
  5. Includes strategies that enable the initiative to be shared with other international schools and/or can be used to help bring about best practice in their local educational communities

Initiative to support students’ pathways to continued/university education

This award will recognise how the initiative supports students in their pursuit of continued or university education. Evidence should include a clear statement of how the initiative goes beyond what the school would be doing as an effective international school. Your application should detail how the initiative:

  1. Has demonstrated a positive impact on student aspirations and choices
  2. Has involved a range of colleges and universities, subject courses and destinations appropriate to the size and nature of the school
  3. Identifies and addresses the specific needs of the students and of the school, including the student voice and/or student action as part of the initiative
  4. Is designed to be sustainable
  5. Includes strategies that enable the initiative to be shared with other international schools and/or can be used to help bring about best practice in their local educational communities

Environmental initiative

This award will recognise an initiative that includes students and the wider school community in raising awareness and promoting change to support the environment, either locally or globally. Evidence should include a clear statement of how the initiative goes beyond what the school would be doing as an effective international school. Your application should detail how the initiative:

  1. Has resulted in the implementation of an initiative to help students develop attitudes to supporting the environment (either local or global environment)
  2. Has involved students in taking ownership of and operating an environmental initiative
  3. Demonstrates to the wider school community the impact of active environmental support
  4. Is designed to be sustainable
  5. Includes strategies that enable the initiative to be shared with other international schools and/or can be used to help bring about best practice in their local educational communities

Initiative to support ethical values education

This award will recognise an initiative that supports students in their development of ethical values which will encourage them to think and act as global citizens. Evidence should include a clear statement of how the initiative goes beyond what the school would be doing as an effective international school. Your application should detail how the initiative:

  1. Has resulted in the implementation of values across the school that nurture students as global citizens and/or critical thinkers
  2. Has encouraged students to develop and articulate a clear grasp of how ethical perspectives and conventions can differ both within and between societies
  3. Has involved students in developing and owning ethical values
  4. Is designed to be sustainable
  5. Includes strategies that enable the initiative to be shared with other international schools and/or can be used to help bring about best practice in their local educational communities

Strategic leadership initiative

This award will recognise an initiative that has been collectively spearheaded by a leadership team, senior leadership team or governing body. Evidence should include a clear statement of how the initiative goes beyond what the school would be doing as a highly effective international school. Your application should detail how the initiative:

  1. Has demonstrated a positive impact on students, staff and/or the school community, transforming teaching and learning and distinguishing the school from others with a demonstrable commitment to continue to do so
  2. Is distinctively different in the way it meets a strategic need for students and the school
  3. Is demonstrably linked to the strategic direction of the school and is being driven into the natural and structural life of the school
  4. Is designed to be sustainable and impactful
  5. Includes strategies that enable the initiative to be shared with other international schools and/or can be used to help bring about best practice in their local educational communities


FAQ'S

When will I find out if we have been shortlisted?

All schools shortlisted for an award will be notified by email on or before 30th November.

How are the entries judged?

An independent panel of education and international school experts select the winners.

When are the winners announced?

Announcement of the winners will be made at the gala ceremony on Monday 20th January 2020 at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms, London.

What do schools win?

Each shortlisted school receives a logo that they can use on their website and stationery that shows their shortlisting in a particular category. This alone is very useful for marketing to potential parents as a sign of quality. Shortlisted schools also receive complimentary tickets to the gala event held at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms, London. Should they win, they will be presented with a trophy and will be considered for the prestigious International School of the Year award.

How do I book tickets for the event?

Three complimentary tickets will be offered to each shortlisted school. Additional tickets may be purchased by emailing sales@islmagazine.com

What is the dress code for the evening?

The event is black tie/posh frocks.
